Record Run Powers Quartuccio to RVW Victory

ProCharger Radial vs the World is widely considered one of the toughest classes in drag racing, and at Lights Out 17 the field once again proved why. When the smoke cleared on Sunday at South Georgia Motorsports Park, it was Ken Quartuccio along with the Scott Tidwell Racing crew standing in the winner’s circle.

Quartuccio entered eliminations as the No.1 qualifier after laying down a strong 3.490 at 211.53 mph during qualifying.

The opening round gave Quartuccio a solo pass to begin eliminations, and he used it to see what the track would take and advance into round two.

In the second round Quartuccio faced Bubba Greene. Quartuccio left the starting line with a .059 reaction time and ran 3.494 at 212.93 mph to move into the semifinals.

The semifinal round placed Quartuccio against Lyle Barnett, who had been one of the quickest cars throughout the event. Quartuccio rose to the occasion with the most impressive run of the weekend, blasting to a 3.436 at 214.76 mph. The pass reset the Radial vs the World world record and secured his spot in the final round.

On the other side of the ladder, Huston Dial worked his way through the field to earn a place in the final. Unfortunately, Dial was unable to make the call for the final round, allowing Quartuccio to make a solo attempt down the track. Looking to better the newly set world record, Quartuccio went for it but spun the tires early and coasted to the win.

Turning the No.1 qualifying position into a race win is never easy in this sport. Quartuccio and his team delivered a complete performance across the entire weekend, combining a record setting semifinal run with a strong qualifying effort to capture one of the most prestigious victories of Lights Out 17.
