White Rice Goes the Distance in X275 at Lights Out 17
In a class known for tight margins and relentless competition, Eric Laferriere proved that consistency and execution still win races. Driving the 1997 Nissan 240SX known as White Rice, Laferriere battled through five rounds of eliminations to claim the X275 victory at Lights Out 17 at South Georgia Motorsports Park.
Laferriere entered race day qualified fifth after running a strong 4.129 at 177.81 mph during qualifying. With a field stacked with competitive cars capable of mid 4.10 performances, there was little room for error once eliminations began.
Round one paired Laferriere against David Woodside. Laferriere left first and drove to a 4.209 at 176.88 mph to advance into round two.
In round two, White Rice began to show its potential. Laferriere ran 4.099 at 179.21 mph against Chris Gould, putting together one of the quicker passes of the early rounds and earning a spot in the next round.
Round three brought another tough matchup against Philip Reichardt. Laferriere delivered again with a 4.129 at 178.52 mph, staying steady both on the starting line and down track as the competition tightened.
The semifinal round featured a matchup with Ducky Johnson. Laferriere continued his string of consistent passes, running 4.101 at 179.64 mph to secure a place in the final round.
In the final, Laferriere lined up against Davey Hull. When the tree dropped, Laferriere cut a .046 reaction time and powered White Rice to a 4.069 at 180.43 mph. Hull was close with a .035 light and a 4.132 at 178.14 mph, but Laferriere's performance was enough to seal the victory.
Winning a class like X275 requires both speed and discipline, and Laferriere showed plenty of both throughout the day. After five hard fought rounds, the White Rice Nissan stood alone at the top of the field, delivering one of the most complete performances of the weekend at Lights Out 17.
